For a long time, South Mumbai has been consistently synonymous with upscale luxury and elegance. After all, it is one of the world's most expensive places to live in. Luxurious living in south Mumbai is truly a dream for many but a reality for some – such as Bollywood A-listers, cricket superstars, industrialists, billionaires, and more!

Here are some of the most luxurious or, rather, super luxurious pockets of South Mumbai or SoBo.

The first on the list had to be Malabar Hill. Malabar Hill is home to Varsha Bungalow and Raj Bhavan, where the Chief Minister and Governor of Maharashtra live. Not only this, the list includes some of the finest entrepreneurs, business moguls, and artists, including Adi Godrej, Cyrus Broacha, the Jindal family, Pallonji Mistry, and Radhakishan Damani. Malabar Hill property prices typically look like ₹1,00,000/ sq. ft. and higher.

Malabar Hill boasts of a right religious and historic fabric. The highlights of the same include the Walkeshwar temple and Banganga Tank. The posh neighbourhood offers some of the finest views of the mighty Arabian Sea. Hanging Gardens and Priyadarshini Park make for lovely spots for leisurely strolls. Ah! In the hush bush of the city, life at Malabar Hill appears tranquil. The Nepean Sea Road connects Malabar Hill to the rest of Mumbai. Gopi Birla Memorial School, The Cathedral John Connon School, and Manav Mandir are some of the best schools in the area. One of the best and most esteemed healthcare facilities in the country, the Breach Candy Hospital Trust is barely a 5-minute drive from Malabar Hill.

  • Altamount Road

Altamound Road was actually officially renamed "SK Barodawalla Marg"; however, it so happens that Mumbai, Mumbaikars, and basically everyone still calls it Altamount. This upscale neighbourhood is home to many Indian industrialists, the Chairman of the Bombay Port Trust, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai City. As luxurious as it gets, an abode at the Altamount Road is priced at ₹55,000/ sq. ft and above.

Altamount Road is famous as one of the most expensive streets in the country. This street literally personifies super luxurious living in south MumbaiThe skyline of the Altamount is studded with sky-kissing residential towers such as the ultra-luxurious Antilia, Lodha Altamount, Raheja One Altamount, and The Imperial Twin Towers. It is, hence, no surprise that it has earned the moniker, 'India's Billionaires' Row.'

  • Worli Sea Face

Mumbai and Mumbaikars have a love for anything and everything sea-facing. After all, the sight of the Arabian Sea is a visual one can literally never get tired of. An even picturesque sight to behold is the Bandra Worli Sea Link with the Arabian Sea in the background. Properties at the Worli Sea Face are priced upwards of ₹1,00,000/ sq. ft.

One of the most sought-after shopping destinations of Mumbai, High Street Phoenix, is located here. The Worli Sea face is bejewelled with some of the newest and finest architectural marvels. The largely mid-rise dominant skyline also includes the utterly exquisite bungalow where Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal live. Considered one of the best healthcare facilities in all of Mumbai, Lilavati can be accessed conveniently by the Bandra Worli Sea Link.

Properties in Mahalakshmi are typically priced at ₹40,000/ sq.ft and more.

Mahalaxmi truly offers the best insight into luxurious living in South MumbaiDream Homes here are truly a little too dreamy; they offer views of the vast 140-year-old Mahalaxmi Race Course and the beautiful Arabian Sea. This picturesque view also comes in tandem with some of the most luxurious places to shop in all of Mumbai. One of the most sought-after shopping destinations of South Mumbai that is home to the finest of luxury brands, the High Street Phoenix is situated less than 2 kilometres from Mahalaxmi. Proximity to the Bandra Worli Sea Link and Eastern Express Highway ensures excellent connectivity.

  • Cuffe Parade

Cuffe Parade made headlines in 2012 when a residential apartment in the Jolly Maker 1 of this sumptuous locality was traded at ₹1,11,000/ sq. ft., a per square foot price relatively unheard of eleven years ago. The almost 2600 sq. ft flat was sold at a whopping price of ₹ 29 crores to Ashok Patni of Patni Computers. Today, the typical price for residential properties in Cuffe Parade looks like ₹80,000/ sq. ft and above.

Mumbai is renowned as the financial capital of India, and Cuffe Parade is considered the CBD of it. Notable landmarks here include the Taj President Hotel and the World Trade Centre. It also houses educational institutions like the BD Somani International School and the GD Somani Memorial School. The prime location is well connected to other parts of the city, and living here epitomises luxury in all possible ways.

Conclusion

With its elite residential neighbourhoods, envious views, and enigmatic by-lanes, South Mumbai has become the pearl of the city – a most precious and prestigious corner of the City of Dreams. To imagine living here would hardly do justice to the actual experience which goes far beyond. As luxury real estate continues to thrive in Mumbai, we can expect more and more development in the area, making it one of the most important destinations for luxurious living across the world.
