For Amitji, moving to Jalsa did not mean moving to an abode far away from his childhood home. The place he grew up in, Prateeksha, is close to Jalsa. He lived here with his parents, the eminent poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his mother Teji Bachchan. The family’s temple is also believed to be housed in Prateeksha itself.

1. The Grand Entrance
When in Juhu, the presence of this iconic landmark can already be felt by the palm trees and shrubs that line up the driveways that lead to the beautiful wooden gate that marks the entrance to the Jalsa. Situated close to the JW Marriott in Juhu, Jalsa has an unmatched charm.

2. Jalsa Spreads Over An Area of More Than 10,000 sq. ft.
Mumbai is the city of sky-kissing scrapers. Low rise is a rare phenomenon in the maximum city that is utterly hard to find and own. Jalsa spreads across a massive area of more than 10,000 sq. ft. and features open spaces and a duplex.

3. Tastefully Landscaped Front Yard
The Bachchans have a beautiful front yard with lots of plants and planters. Variegated sizes of plants and largely textured surfaces have been used by the farmers. This creates a lovely space for the family to sit and enjoy quality time.

4. The Sprawling Green Lawn in Jalsa’s Backyard
The backyard of Amitabh Bachchan’s duplex house houses a beautiful green lawn. Mr Bachchan shares a few glimpses of himself relaxing on a reclined chair on this lawn. He mentioned enjoying the sun, clear sky and a gentle breeze while sitting here on an off day.

5. Regal and Opulent interiors
In all things, minimalist, Jalsa is a very ornate, intricate and exciting take on luxury. Embodying royal feels, the Jalsa is laden with unique wall prints, art pieces that the Bachchan family is known to love and buy, and exquisite furniture. The house is generously decked up in gold, silver and brass fixtures. It brings together an eclectic mix of Persian and Mughal Architectural elements, particularly in the living are. The Bachchan family is known to love art to another level. Ardent art lovers, as the Bachchans are- their house is also home to paintings by artists like Manjit Bawa. A particular bull painting by the aforementioned artist in the Bachchan House is believed to cost around ₹3-4 crores.

6. A Fully Equipped Gym
Jalsa houses a full-blown gym where the Bachchans routinely work out! Followers and fans of Senior Bachchan are undoubtedly familiar with this space; Amit Ji routinely posts selfies from this space on his social media handles, sometimes all by himself, sometimes in the company of his grandson.

7. Amitabh Bachchan’s Study and Workspace
Amitabh Bachchan’s duplex house
also houses a study with a workstation, a mini library and a comfortable and huge couch. Amitabh Bachchan is believed to have a standing desk in this minimally and tastefully done up workspace where he prefers to work from home. He says the inspiration behind the same comes from his father, who would like to do the same when working.

8. The Wall With Frames, Frames And Oh More Frames
The famed wall from Jalsa pictures, found on Amitji’s Instagram, is a wall laden with numerous photographs that capture many of the family’s special moments over the years. The wall is a beautiful collage of memories showcased in black and white.

In the End

The word ‘jalsa’ literally translates to celebration! It is the most appropriate word to describe the joyous Bachchan family abode. It is a celebration in so many ways- a potpourri of colours, textures, opulence and grandeur that comes together beautifully. The Juhu duplex has a front yard and a lush green backyard, a dream for many in the city of dreams. From a fully equipped gym to a gigantic photo wall, everything can be found here!
