A booming sector in India projected to cross ₹13 lakh crores by 2023, real estate contributes close to 7% of our GDP. Over the years, there has been an evident shift in the dynamics of the realty industry, with builders adopting a more modern approach to their architecture and emphasising amenities in residential buildings. Though buying a home requires a series of steps, buyers today are much more proactive and are willing to spend.

The current era is a win-win for buyers and developers. With increased demand, there is a need to serve the customer with top quality. Though the increase in demand for residential properties is a positive sign, they do come with the baggage of high maintenance costs. For those having moved into their new homes not so long back, maintenance may not top their priority checklist. However, neglecting this could lead to hindrances in the future.

The following blog will help you understand the simple measures to be adopted to make your home look new for the longest time possible.

1. Keep your home clean and fresh

Though it may sound like a basic routine, many ignore it. Procrastination can be your worst enemy in this case, as the quicker you clean, the less complicated other things become. You can preach these habits by immediately placing an item back into its original place/position after use. Deep cleaning and vacuuming done regularly help keep away dust, dirt, and other contaminants, potentially causing harm to your health. Make sure to use room fresheners and candles to give a fresh feel to your home and provide passages for air circulation.

2. Easy access to things of frequent use

This will help you save up a lot of time and avoid confusion, especially during situations in a hurry. Use easily accessible storage options for things you use frequently. If you place items according to their importance, it will make life easier for you. For example, if you are a regular gym goer, put your track pants on the front shelf of your cupboard.

3. Ventilation systems, geysers, and air conditioning

High-maintenance systems that require constant monitoring and maintenance. In case of any kind of disturbance within them, small or big, get on a quick call with the technician. Given their high utility, checking the machinery regularly is vital.

4. Have a laundry bag for each resident

This is one of the most unattended duties of the house, even causing arguments among family members. Laundry piling up is no ancient practice. A quick solution would be to designate laundry bags for each person on the property, locating them conveniently. If you can’t place these bags, put them in a place where used clothes tend to pile up. Doing your laundry duty on time is another way to increase the efficiency of your home.

5. Make your bed

Keeping your bed neat makes your room look compact, solving many chores. Take a couple of minutes every morning to make your bed. Doing this could also motivate the rest of your activities in the day. Having your mattress in place would serve as a potential shield in a cluttered room.

6. The decluttering process

An empty box or basket could serve as an effective aid in the process of decluttering. Putting items in their place, especially those belonging to other rooms, could require time. Hence, using a box/basket could quicken the process as one can simply fill them and drop them in their necessary places. Involving other members of your household will only make things easier.

7. Maintain the attractive aspect of your new home

Make sure your lawns and gardens remain healthy. If required, hire the services of a gardener. With flowers tending to blossom, especially in the spring season. Keep the phone numbers of plumbers, electricians, and other technicians handy for immediate addressal of even the most minor issues.

8. Inspect the exterior and install a fire system

In terms of the exterior parts of your home, check for any decolourisation of the wall paints or jamming of doors and windows. A modern necessity to protect yourself from untimely hazards is installing smoke and carbon dioxide detectors and a fire extinguisher.

9. Rules to follow for kids

Parents need to make sure their children follow specific house rules, be it their eating habits or things they do for recreation. For example, having their meals on the dining table and now where else, making sure they put their toys in place and being extra careful during activities like colouring and painting.

Overall, in the excitement of moving into a new house, do not make the mistake of overlooking aspects that may come to haunt you later. While it won’t require as much effort as your previous residence, keep things in check while moving into your new home.
