Have you ever wondered your bathroom should be in which direction, as per Vastu Shastra? Or if the principles of Vastu Shastra can apply to your bathroom in a very impactful manner? If the answer to the above questions is a yes, then you have come to the right place.

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home, as it is where you cleanse yourself physically and mentally. However, if the bathroom is not designed according to the principles of Vastu Shastra, it can create negative energies that affect your health, wealth and happiness.

Therefore, by following some simple tips, you can make your bathroom a source of positive energy and well-being.

Here are some dos and don'ts for designing your bathroom according to Vastu Shastra, and how you can apply them to your own bathroom.

Bathroom Vastu: Dos

  • Do locate your bathroom in the north, east or north-east direction of your home.

So, you bathroom should be in which direction? Ideally, north, east, or north-east of your home. These directions are associated with water and air elements, which promote cleanliness, freshness and purification. If your bathroom is already in one of these directions, you are lucky. If not, you can try to shift it to the nearest possible direction or use a Vastu yantra (a sacred geometric symbol) to correct the energy flow.

  • Do keep your bathroom well-ventilated, well-lit and well-maintained.

A clean and airy bathroom attracts positive energy and prevents the accumulation of germs, dirt and foul smells. You can install an exhaust fan or a window to ensure proper ventilation, use natural or artificial lighting to brighten up the space and clean your bathroom regularly with disinfectants and aromatic oils.

  • Do use light colours for your bathroom walls, tiles and accessories.

Light colours such as white, cream, blue or green create a sense of spaciousness, calmness and serenity in your bathroom. You can paint your walls with these colours or use tiles or wallpapers that have these shades. You can also use accessories such as towels, rugs or curtains that match these colours.

  • Do keep a small plant or a vase of flowers in your bathroom.

Plants and flowers bring natural beauty, freshness and vitality to your bathroom. They also purify the air and absorb negative energy. You can choose a plant that thrives in humid conditions such as ferns, orchids or bamboo. You can also use fresh or artificial flowers that have pleasant colours and fragrances.

Bathroom Vastu: Don’ts

  • Don't locate your bathroom in the south, south-west or south-east direction of your home.

These directions are associated with fire and earth elements, which create imbalance, stagnation and decay. If your bathroom is in one of these directions, you need to take some remedial measures. You can use a Vastu pyramid (a three-dimensional structure that balances the energy) to neutralise the negative effects, or paint the walls with light colours to reduce the heaviness.

  • Don't keep your bathroom cluttered, dark or damp.

A dirty and gloomy bathroom repels positive energy and invites diseases, stress and depression. You can avoid clutter by using cabinets, shelves or baskets to store your toiletries and accessories, avoid using dark colours or heavy curtains that block the light, and fix any leaks or dampness that cause mould or mildew.

  • Don't place a mirror on the south or west wall of your bathroom.

A mirror on these walls reflects negative energy and creates confusion, conflict and self-doubt. You can avoid placing a mirror on these walls by using other decorative items such as paintings, posters or stickers that uplift your mood and inspire you. The best positions for a mirror in your bathroom are its north or east wall. Additionally, make sure it is not directly opposite the toilet or the shower.

  • Don't keep any sharp or pointed objects in your bathroom.

This point might seem counter-intuitive as sharp or pointed objects such as scissors, knives or razors tend to be stored in the bathroom. However, according to Vastu, they create a negative impact on your mind and body. They also cause accidents and injuries. Thus, try to store these objects in a safe place such as a drawer or a cabinet that is out of reach of children. You can also cover them with a cloth or a case when not in use to reduce their negative energy.

Conclusion

We hope this blog gives you real insight into questions like ‘Bathroom should be in which direction?’, ‘What colours should I use in the bathroom?’ or more. By following these simple tips, you can transform your bathroom into a positive space that enhances your health, wealth and happiness. All the best!
