While many of us from the eastern half of the world may not agree, Mumbaikars firmly believe that the west is best. The Western Suburbs are posher, highly developed and well-connected. Neighbourhoods like Malad, Goregaon, Andheri, Bandra, Juhu, Borivali, Kandivali, Khar, Mira Road, and Vile Parle - now make up the very heart and soul of the city. The demand for real estate in Mumbai, too, is highest in these localities.

But why is it that Mumbaikars have a penchant for the west? Let’s take a look.

The Western Belt

The Western Suburbs are some of the oldest and most developed neighbourhoods of the city. The greatest attraction of this part of Mumbai, though, are the lovely beaches and the superb connectivity offered by the Western and Harbour Lines of the suburban railway network. Nearly each of these localities is a station on a suburban rail - the very lifeline of Mumbai. The metro network also connects the entire western side of the city, making work commute and intra-city travel very convenient. The Western Express Highway runs from the northern end of the Western Suburbs to the southernmost. The entire belt running through Bhayandar, Mira Road, Dahisar, Borivali, Vile Parle, and Bandra is the best connected in the whole city.

Industry and Glamour

Industrial and commercial development is a natural corollary to excellent connectivity and public transport systems. From Film City in Goregaon to the top media and production houses of Andheri, from the financial district around Nariman Point to the star-studded beachfront at Juhu – Mumbai is all industry and business, with a generous dash of glitz and glamour. The Western Suburbs are exceptionally well-connected to Andheri MIDC, Santacruz Electronic and Export Promotion Zone (SEEPZ), Bandra-Kurla Corridor, Lower Parel and the IT Parks of Navi Mumbai. No matter which part of the city you work in, you can get there in minutes.

Social Infrastructure

The Western Suburbs are much more than work and commutes. These are localities that offer the very best of urban living. The gated communities and real estate projects in these localities range from budget-friendly to uber-rich – something to suit every pocket without compromising lifestyle and entertainment. Some of Mumbai’s best restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, and swanky malls are located in the Western Suburbs. The surge in commercial and residential projects across these neighbourhoods gives the impression that there is little greenery or space. However, on the flip side, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and a number of gardens and parks are also located here. Mumbai is also fast emerging as a medical tourism hub in western India. The Western Suburbs have some of the top hospitals, medical facilities, and diagnostic centres in this part of the country. While these localities continue to host some of the top schools and colleges in Mumbai, a number of higher education institutions are now moving to larger campuses in Navi Mumbai and other Mumbai suburbs.

Make the Best of the West

The Western Suburbs showcase the very best of Mumbai’s spirit and vibrancy. From shopping streets to premium luxury showrooms, from young start-ups to top MNCs, from films to finance and everything in between – you will find it all here. No wonder the demand for residential property in Mumbai’s Western Suburbs is always high and always a great investment option. These localities are also among the favourites of the top developers in Mumbai. As Mumbaikars say, you can always expect the best from the West.
