Buying a new house is an exciting journey. It brings joy and a profound sense of achievement. The flat or apartment you buy will be your home for years to come, and much of your luck and financial prosperity is tied to this new property. It is natural for homeowners to look for Vastu tips to bring peace, positivity, and abundance into their homes. While modern flats and apartments do not allow for any intrinsic structural changes, a lot can be done concerning picking the right colours, artwork, and décor items that harmonise the elements and make for a wonderful life.

The Elephant Statue

Elephants have traditionally been considered symbols of strength, emotional resilience, good luck, and protection. These are highly intelligent creatures with long memories and capable of forming strong emotional bonds with human beings. This is why many temples in southern India house elephants. Elephants are typically associated with Lord Ganesha, the Hindu god who removes obstacles and provides protection. Elephants are also central to Buddhist mythology and lore. Vastu Shastra recommends placing elephant statues and idols in the home. There are several guidelines, though, regarding the placement and the location of these statues that are intended for specific results. Let us take a look at some of these.

What kind of elephant statues should I have at home?

Elephant statues are rather popular in India. You can find them made from stone, metal, or wood. Which one you choose for your home will depend on what you wish to achieve. Silver or brass elephants indicate wealth and prosperity, while wooden elephant idols attract strength and courage, and stone elephants represent power and fame.

The colour of the elephant is also believed to be quite significant. White elephants represent the vehicles of Goddess Lakshmi and bring riches. Black or red elephants herald fame and recognition, while green elements bring power and authority.

Elephant pairs or herds depict strong family ties, and elephants depicted balancing or playing with a ball attract harmony and peace in the household. A jade elephant on a pile of coins is a potent Feng Shui symbol that attracts wealth and prosperity.

Are elephant paintings or pictures good for my home?

Both Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui are traditions that promote harmony and balance. Positive vibrations and auspicious energies can be brought in by placing idols, pictures, and photos in specified places. So if you do not have an elephant statue and cannot find the space to place one, you can pick photos, pictures, and wall art with elephant images for your home. Alternatively, you can use cushions or upholstery with elephant motifs as well. It is best to avoid using a rug or carpet with an elephant, though.

Where should I place an elephant statue or idol?

  • According to Vastu Shasta, the placement of the elephant statue or picture can influence the energy of the room or space. The ideal placement of an elephant figurine or painting is in the foyer or the living room. This protects the home from negative energies and generates a strong aura of harmony and success. It is important to remember, though, that when an elephant photo or idol is placed near the home entrance, the head should be pointing towards the home and not to the door.
  • Apart from the home entrance or living area, you can place an elephant figure or painting in your study or home office. This helps improve your focus and concentration. Elephants are known for their long memories and for being tough under pressure.
  • Placing a statue of a mother and calf elephant holding trunks is believed to strengthen the bond of children with their parents. This statue is ideally placed in the children’s bedroom.
  • The bedroom is another good place for your elephant statue. If you have a painting of a pair of elephants, you may want to hang it in your bedroom to strengthen your relations with your partner.
  • An idol of Ganesha, the elephant-headed God, is best placed in the north-east direction of the home.

Things to remember

  • Do not keep broken or chipped elephant statues in your home.
  • Do not display images or statues of elephants locked in a duel.
  • Desist form buying elephant heads or wall mounted elephant head décor pieces. Elephant statues should always have the entire body.
  • Keep the elephant statue or picture clean and dust-free.
  • Elephant soft toys can be gifted to children. These help bring health and joy.

Elephants are universal symbols of strength, free spirit, and natural beauty. Elephant statues are symbolic representations of their exuberant and fun-loving nature. Placing them in your home brings great joy and happiness.
